Luckily, there are plenty of scholarships out there to help fund your studies, including these eight German scholarships available to international students in Germany in 2023. 1) The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The DAAD supports highly qualified international students with a scholarship (called Stipendium) to study and research at a German university or institution of higher education. In order to qualify, applicants must be non-EU citizens, hold a valid passport from a country outside of Europe, and have been accepted as an international student at a university or institute of higher education in Germany. The application period lasts throughout December and into January. All applications must be sent online through DAAD’s website.

 

2) Frank Thiele-Foundation (FTH)

The FTH Foundation awards scholarships to German students of all disciplines as well as scholars from abroad, who intend to study or are studying for their doctorate at a German university. The application deadline is March 1. Those interested must submit an application detailing their academic and professional background, their plans during and after study and their proposed field of research. They should also include information about other scholarships they have received or are expecting to receive.

3) Otto Wolff Loan Foundation

The Otto Wolff Loan Foundation offers loans and Scholarships in Germany to undergraduate and graduate students at public colleges and universities in Germany. The foundation grants one-time loans of up to €5,000 (about $6,100). Applicants must be studying at a university or public college with an international orientation.

4) Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

Prospective students who are interested in studying in Germany can apply for a scholarship from BMBF and are eligible to receive up to 1,500 Euros per month. The maximum duration of such a scholarship is three years. It is aimed at encouraging young scientists to carry out research at German universities and research institutions. Applicants can use their funds as they see fit while carrying out their academic or scientific project.

5) Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBWF)

The Federal Ministry of Education and Science (BMBWF) grants several German scholarships to international students who want to study at a public university or institution. The grants are need-based, which means applicants will have to show proof of financial need before they are approved. To apply, you must fill out an online application form and submit it along with official copies of your academic transcripts and other supplementary materials. You can also contact your German embassy or consulate directly to request an application package.

6) Federal Employment Agency Scholarship Programme 

The Federal Employment Agency Scholarship Programme (BAföG) promotes university and vocational education by providing financial support in name of Scholarships in Germany to students from lower-income families. The grants are financed from general tax revenues, but recipients do not have to pay it back and so do not need to start repaying their student loans until they are earning a certain amount of money (currently €1,050 gross per month). 7) Hermann Pünder Foundation – The Ernst-Reuter-Scholarship Program

The Hermann Pünder Foundation awards a maximum of 100 study grants annually. Each grant covers annual tuition fees and gives recipients an allowance to cover living expenses during their studies. This is one of the most prestigious scholarships available to international students wishing to study at a German university. Applicants should hold citizenship from one of a list of countries and should demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, language proficiency, and be enrolled at a partner institution. 8) Friedrich Ebert Foundation – United World College Scholarship Programme (UWC).

The UWC is a globally recognised scholarship programme that accepts only 15 international students to its colleges every year. Successful candidates receive fully funded undergraduate and postgraduate Scholarships in Germany, which includes accommodation and health insurance as well as a living allowance. Candidates must be between 17-18 years old on 1 January of the year they enter college. They must also prove English-language proficiency and pass an interview process, where they will be assessed on their leadership skills, community spirit and academic record.
