The Jefferson Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to public service. The scholarship was created by Thomas Jefferson Foundation in partnership with the University of Virginia and is funded by donors including Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, the late John D. Rockefeller III, the Shelby Cullom Davis Foundation, and other generous contributors.

The scholarship was established by David Walentas, founder and CEO of Two Trees Management Company, which owns and operates Brooklyn’s historic Dumbo neighborhood. The Jefferson Scholarship Program provides need-based scholarships to students from the Charlottesville, Virginia area.
